Zen of Screaming: Melissa Cross vocal warm-ups & Vocal Eze

In the past I've mostly had problems with a vocal tightness. My growls would periodically crack if I didn't put enough force into it, consequently overworking my chords, and the only thing I found able to remedy it was smoking a cigarette or two before a set or a show. The only time I didn't smoke before a show, I felt like it was the shittiest performance I've ever put on and my vocals were complete shit so I ended up sticking to my smoking theory. And I thoroughly enjoy smoking.

I finally obtained a copy of the warm-ups about a year after watching the Zen of Screaming for the first time. I don't know what my vocal range is, nor do I want to pay anybody money with a piano to spend five minutes with me to figure out what my range is, so I just use what range was the most comfortable for me to warm up to.

The end result is absolutely amazing. No more cracks, no more discomfort after long sets or silly hoarseness thereafter. I see what they mean as they praise her for the exercises. Everything they say is absolutely correct. It really is kind of funny, but I don't give a fuck. I'm not embarrassed on my quest to be the best female vocalist I can be. It works and I will continue.

On a side note, the best herbal throat spray I have ever encountered is Vocal Eze, which I purchased from Guitar Center. It doesn't burn at all and if you've got a sore throat, it works wonders. I even made my friend a believer. As he arrived to a show, constantly spraying that Chloraseptic shit into his mouth because his throat was sore, I told him to try a couple of sprays of Vocal Eze. He said the pain immediately went away. Now he's all about that shit. If you do vocals or think you will have a sore throat or two at any point in your future, try it.
